Age UK London are offering older people’s organisations the chance to link up with Social Media Champions – individuals who have experience and knowledge of, as well as enthusiasm for, social media.

  • I think that is a useful initiative. But I would rather ask [and get the answers to] the question: Why, in spite of huge sums of money and enormous effort do we still have millions – yes at least 8 m. – mostly older people, who are not using computers? Many have tried the training on offer and given up. Why?

    My answer is two-fold and is based strictly on evidence and long experience: (1) The essential principle of all learning and teaching is being ignored: Difficult content needs to be made simple for the novice learner. (2) That has been done superbly by Simplicity Computers Ltd, whose new downloadable “Envelope” – a cut-down version of wordprocessing and email, along with easy access to the internet, Skype, and managing photos – is available for a free trial at
